Hi guys,

Could you please give me feedback on this site:

http://www.mymjm.netmx.co.uk/empress/index.html

Would like it in the following areas:
- colours
- usability
- accessibility - I am going to add access keys.
- layout

I am aware the site needs a tag line. Any suggestions? Also, no content under events picture on home page.

Cheers,

MyMJM.

Large blocks of solid colour are tiring to look at. I'd suggest using white or very pale grey for the main body text area, and keep the coloured backgrounds for smaller areas like the header and side bar. Ruled borders would help to set them apart.

If the interior of the building is decorated in a 1920's art deco style, then perhaps you could use that as a starting point for your design instead of the random mixture of Old English, Georgia and Arial fonts that you're currently using.

The home page has too much empty space, and the photos which are almost but not quite the same size make it look untidy.

Get rid of the gallery page. Snapshots like that are only interesting if you happen to appear in them. If you can afford it, hire a professional photographer.

The structure of the site could be improved too. For example,most of the content on the home page can only be seen by scrolling down, and most casual visitors would probably have no idea you offer dancing lessons.

Google have some useful guidelines:

One can learn a lot from other people's mistakes:

And here are a couple of sites that look a lot more professional to me:

Yes it looks loads better now, good to see you took the advice on board.

One extra thing though, I always think that photos look more professional with a 1px solid black border around them as oppose to the default 2px blue that browsers sometimes put on images with hyperlinks on them.

I may even try the right column as the same colour as the header just to see what it looks like, but that's probably just tweaking for the sake of tweaking.

Now your just showing off! That's a million times better than the first version, it looks great. I would still see what the images look like with a 1px black border instead of blue though. I would also add a 1px margin as well so the images on the right aren't bunched up.

If you have used a stylesheet the below code should work and then you can always cut it out if you don't like it;

a img
{
border: 1px solid black;
margin: 1px;
}
