Django is now available on the professional hosting accounts, it may very well need extra modules adding as its a very new setup - please do let us know if you find this to be the case.

Please also note paths on professional are /var/www/vhosts NOT /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts - so please make the changes accordingly in the examples in this thread.

(Oni did you manage to get your problems sorted)

I don't think my account is a professional one so... I'm not sure what settings I should have. It worked fine with the PSA path you mentioned, although there were errors with requests not being honored.

On closer inspection I do have a professional account but my base path is:

/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/section9.co.uk/httpdocs

With this set, Django runs, HOWEVER, it will fail with repeated requests. For example:

http://www.section9.co.uk/Section9Design/flashItemAll/3

if you place this in a browser and refresh every second, it will fail (sometimes it fails on the first go). I suspect conenctions might be being ignored, not closed or dropped.

I seem to have two separate problems here. Perhaps the pathing one needs tackling first.

If its a professional account (hosted on prohost1 or prohost2) then the path will be /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN not /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/DOMAIN

In that case it isnt, so I'll switch back to the other URLs.

This brings me to the second, more important point. Why would requests simply be reset? I believe Django is single threaded. Could this be the problem?

apache doesnt keep threads open indefinitly it has a max children limit and it then closes down the thread - could this be possibly an effect, there are also timeouts on apache to stop one thread staying open for too long.

Hi again guys. Seems I've managed to get Django working well with my own site over on Ted. I was working on a clients site when I suddenly realised they are on the DeepThought server. Does this one have Django support available at all?

The site in question is here on Ted:

http://www.section9.co.uk/AnneBlundell/

But it'd be cool if we could move it to : SnowDropStudios.co.uk which is hosted on DeepThought.

However, I am considering buying another domain name for the Section9 Account and having it point to the existing location. I presume this means a subdomain and an upgrade of my account potentially?

Cheers

Ben

Sorry not possible on deepthought, but just drop us an email and we can move the account on deepthought to the ted server for you if you want.

OSQA is a Django app with several pre-requisites:

Apache mod_WSGI
Python 2.6 +
South django django-debug-toolbar markdown html5lib python-openid

Is it feasible that I could get this working at 34sp without having to go for a virtual server of my own? (hosting: personal @ holly or professional @ prohost1)?

Im afraid we dont use mod_wsgi, and the python version is 2.4.x - the version is from the official centos repositories, so would need custom compiles of things making the update path hard to keep easily as such i dont think this is useable on our shared setups im afraid.

OK, I thought that might be the case. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
